Hair Transplantation

Hair transplantation is safe and relatively painless procedure that restores and grows hairs naturally. It is an effective treatment for both men and women which gives an ultimate permanent remedy for baldness.

Hair transplantation is a procedure in which hair is removed from back of scalp i.e., the permanent hair-bearing region (the “donor” area) and transferred to bald or balding areas of the scalp (the “recipient” area). The transplanted hair has the same color and other characteristics as the hair in the donor area. There are two types of transplantation FUE( Follicular unit extraction) and FUT( Follicular unit transplantation by strip technique).

At CUTIS Academy, the surgery is performed by the In House renowned specialists, in a well equipped advanced Operation Theater. The surgery is a day care procedure without any complication, to give aesthetically elegant results. Apart from transplantation (FUE/FUT) for baldness on scalp, we also offer eyebrow, Moustache, beard transplantations and scar reconstruction.

FUE Technique

FUE is more popular in the modern era of transplantation. It is a day care, less invasive surgery that leaves behind no linear scar with minimal down time. The technique involves removal of each group of hair (Follicular units) with steel punches (0.7 – 0.9 mm size) and implanted on the bald scalp at a particular angle to have a natural look.

Salient features of technique:Steps:

  • It is an advanced surgery with art and delicacy.
  • The donor site does not have any suture or linear scars
  • It is less painful and has minimal down time for the patient.
  • It requires a good competent team.
  • The whole procedure is a day care surgery and the total stay in hospital would be for 8 to 10 hours.
  • Surgery is done under local anaesthesia. Patients may feel the initial injection prick of anaesthesia after which there won’t be any pain and the patient will be conscious through out the procedure.
  • Calculate the required number of grafts to be harvested, based on area of baldness and donor supply. If it is not sufficient we can take from body and beard region called as body hair transplantation
  • After anesthesia, safe area to be harvested is marked and grafts are harvested with suitable punch, more precisely.
  • The harvested grafts are implanted immediately in to bald area.

Advantages of Surgery – Why should I opt FUE

  • No linear scar, I can keep my hair shortest
  • No stitching/suturing and removal of stitches – Minimal downtime
  • It is the only method of choice to get grafts from beard and body

Beware of drawbacks of FUE

  • The grafts to be handled delicately, otherwise they suffer loss.
  • The procedure to be done by experts, other wise there could be overharvesting from the unsafe area leading to damage to delicate grafts and poor results.

FUT Technique

In strip method/FUT, 1 to 1.2 cm wide strip of skin is removed from the donor area, stitched to leave a narrow scar. Follicular units/hair grafts are separated using magnifying loupes and transplanted on the bald scalp. The technique gives equally good results, probably the down time is little longer. Both techniques of FUT and FUE are combined in mega and giga sessions to harvest more grafts.

Sequel of Hair transplantation

Usually all of the transplanted hairs will initially fall out within a period of two to three weeks, retaining the roots in the scalp. Approximately, two to three months later, they re grow in the recipient area and thus require around 6- 9 months to see the complete result. In FUE technique the grafts may not fall and keep growing, results are visible at the end of 6 months.

Important – You should be knowing this

  • Pain after surgery is well taken care with medicines.
  • The chance of infection is also zero as the procedure is done in well equipped sterile operation theatre under aseptic precautions.
  • As Local anaesthesia is injected some patients can develop swelling of forehead after 3 days which subsides in a week.
  • Follow-ups would be on day 3 for head wash and on day 10 to start regular medicines, and thereafter every 3-6 weeks for PRP sessions. We provide 6 complimentary PRP sessions for all the patients who undergo hair transplantation.
  • Patients have to continue the medical treatment even after transplantation to save the existing hair on the rest of the scalp; transplanted hair does not require any treatment after 6 months.

Hair transplantation with Platelet rich plasma (PRP)

Cutis offers a package of 6 complimentary PRP sessions after hair transplantation. PRP is an adjuvant therapy to both medical treatment and hair transplantation. PRP contains growth factors which aids in healing process and normalizing hair follicle growth.

Platelet rich plasma is our own blood plasma enriched with platelets. It contains several different growth factors that stimulate soft tissue healing, hair growth, rejuvenation of skin and modifying acne scars. Hence it is used for hair growth, skin rejuvenation, ulcer treatment, acne scars, wrinkles and stretch marks

Procedural steps

  • Procedure is very simple; 10-20ml of your own blood is drawn from your vein, under sterile conditions in prior labeled bulbs to get PRP in 40 minutes.
  • This growth factor rich substance is delivered at site by fine injection shots or by derma roller tool. To make the procedure pain free it can be done under injection/topical anesthesia.
  • The whole procedure takes one to one and half hours and the patient can resume to your normal activity immediately after the procedure.
  • For hair loss, the procedure is repeated every 3 to 6 weeks and requires minimum 6 sessions.

It is safe, as it is the patients own blood prepared under sterile conditions to give pyrogen free PRP and is absolutely safe. PRP contains growth factors which aids in healing process.

The pre and post procedure instructions

It is feasible to keep hairs short or zero trimmed prior to the procedure. On the day of the procedure, it is not advisable to wash the scalp and not apply any lotions, gels or sprays. The scalp can be washed regularly the next day.

Side effects and down time
